How You Can Help
Volunteering at the Centre
This very active and busy Community Centre is staffed, in the
main, by a fantastic team of volunteers, which enables the Centre
to be open daily between 9am - 10pm.
We are always in need of volunteers who could spare a couple of hours
where possible, and would love to hear from any one who may be interested
in helping us at the Centre. Very briefly, a steward's task is to
keep the Centre running smoothly during their duty period. The more
routine aspects of the job are summarised below:
1. Be present at the Centre over the duty period.
2. Provide information about the Centre, its facilities and activities,
forthcoming events etc to visitors or telephone enquirers.
3. Accept bookings for badminton. (All other bookings are dealt with
in the Admin office)
4. Issue receipts and record takings.
5. Sell sweets, soft drinks etc from the snack bar and use appropriate
till. Make tea and coffee in small quantities.
6. Enrol new members and renew existing memberships.
We are looking for friendly people with plenty of common sense to
join our team, and will promise you a warm welcome. Training and supervision
will be provided until such time as you are happy and confident to
be working alone.
PLEASE HELP!
We are appealing to any one who may be interested in volunteering
an hour or two from as little as once per month, to lend a hand in
our reception. There are plenty of "slots" that need covering,
either on a weekly, alternate weekly or even once a month basis.
Every year we hold a special dinner in honour of all the stewards,
committee members and trustees of the centre, to say a big "thank
you" for everything that they do. They are all volunteers, and
happily give their time and energy in order to maintain the efficient
running of the centre. This year 118 of us celebrated our success,
and spent an enjoyable evening together. Entertainment was provided
by "The Jazz Channel", and Elizabeth Cornelius Caterers
supplied a delicious three-course meal.
As well as being invited to our annual Thank you Dinner, we hold regular
coffee mornings. This is an informal get-together and a chance for
us to catch up on each other's gossip and news, (as well as indulging
in delicious cakes!) and an opportunity for stewards to meet each
other and make new friends. We also organise coach trips and outings,
and have fun with the quizzes and information supplied in our monthly
stewards newsletter.
If you are interested in becoming part of our friendly team and would
like more details, please contact Tina Letchford on 023 92467567
or email tina@hicca.co.uk
- we will be delighted to hear from you!
